The story of a secret fan language has been passed on from generation to generation. Since I am often asked about the "Language of the Fan", I decided to dedicate this entire group to it. You can add any links to the information that you may come across. Have fun!i

Hi Lady Estelle, THank you for more FAN info. I did not know that men also used fans to keep cool. I have only seen men use paper or their handkerchiefs. I always use a fan whenever I go out and I keep getting asked if I have an extra one as everyone is very envious. They do work very well at keeping flies away as well as keeping you cooler.

A bit of Victorian news
Men also used the fan, but to keep cool only. The fan was always the color black and very small, not to be to noticed.

I have been giving my fan presentation at the museum for the two weeks and have been really enjoying it. It's so fun to see the reactions of the ladies and girls as I talk about the connection between the cell phone and the fan. That helps tie the past in with the present. The museum purchased some small nice fans that for a small donation people could take with them along with a print out of some of the fan language. That has been well received and one young lady came back before her family left and thanked me for the fun information. That has really made it all worth doing!!

Oh, Lady Estele, thank you so much for this great information. The video on the execution of the movements is especially helpful. The reference to the fan maker who published the list is also good as I had read that it had been started in such a way. Thank you all for helping me in my research. Lady Estele, I love seeing all the lovely pics of you in your period clothing. You bring to life that lovely period of our history.
